Last year, we delved into the Sony Creators app and to our surprise, it unlocked far more potential than we expected. Since the need for multi camera setups never stops, we decided to test it with a handful of Sony FX3 camera’s.
Why? Because this can be a great solution for an accessible multicam setup without all the hassle of rigging bigger cameras for the job.
For this test, we used three Sony FX3 camera’s, each paired with a G Master lens of a different vocal length. The cameras were mounted on trusty Sachtler tripods, all connected to a single iPad with the Sony Monitor and control App for multicam monitoring and control.
Be sure to provide an extra v-mount battery for the iPad an FX3’s, as the continuous wifi connection and real-time monitoring is power hungry!
To connect the cameras through the menu:
MENU > 🌐 Netwerk Menu > Wi-Fi > Access Point set
Make sure your camera shows up on the multi camera connection screen of the app:
MENU > 🌐 Netwerk Menu > PC Remote Connection > On
In this screen, you can find the username and password in case the Application asks for this

Once all cameras are online, connect your iPad to the same Wi-Fi network. Open the Monitor & Control App, and toggle “Multi-Camera Monitoring” in the top-right corner.
When the cameras appear, tap “Connect.” Once connected, a green status indicator confirms full remote access.
Through the menu, just click on Monitoring et voila, the multicam goodness is at your fingertips. We will not go into too much detail about all the details of application, but you can nearly control everything through the iPad.
- START/STOP Recording on individual or all camerasIn our opinion, this simple App is a powerful tool for projects with minimal crews. Through one screen, you can monitor and controlling nearly every function of the camera. Thanks to Sony, you get full control at your fingertips, without the need for complex camera setups, specialised tools or technology.
What about latency? Well, this isn’t a system zero-delay transmission, such as our wireless transmission combo from DwarfConnection. It’s more on par with other Wi-Fi based monitoring systems. Remember, the performance can also vary depending on the condition or model of your smart device.
In essence, working with the Monitor and Control app and FX-line camera’s gives you a cost-effective, multicam workflow without hassle. It’s incredibly powerful and besides dedicated camera control, shines as a multicam monitoring setup for small crews!
